Teacher Tales: Puka Shells

There is a downside to being a young teacher I get all kinds of crazy questions/ comments Personal questions. Sometimes they make me laugh...sometimes they don't.
As a new feature here on SC I will be sharing some of the more comical stories straight from the mouths of my well meaning teenagers.

Bold: Real actual student comments
Italics: Commentary

"Miss... are these your friends?" (pointing to several pictures on my desk)
"Yes they are!"
"Oh I thought they would be cuter than that"

Ummmm okkkkkkkk... This one stung a bit, because well I think my friends are rather "cute"
I texted my bestie and told her what they had said... she replied with this...

"Remember what we thought was "cute" in the 8th grade."

I responded with:
"I think my definition involved puka shells"
(for the record I have no idea who this school pic is of...#creepy)

Excuse me now while I go burn every picture of me wearing puka shells... because unfortunately there are many!

Our 8th grade perspectives on "cute" were so skewed. I was ALL ABOUT some puka shells, too!

Ahh I literally 'lol'ed reading this... I too rocked some mad puka shells back in the day, haha. Not my proudest of fashion choices but hey, back then it was the way to go!

Love this series! The things kids say to teachers crack me up....You should write as many as you can down! If I ever teach again, I plan on it. :)

BTW, your friend is absolutely right...If they think you and your friends are cute, chances are you need help! lol I mean, look how far we've come since those days! You don't WANT to be their definition of cute.

Just found your blog through Hollie's linkup and this made me LOL. Of course JT and Puka Shells were cute. Why wouldn't they be? You weren't cool if you didn't wear puka shells.

Can't wait to read more!

STOP. IT. This is hilarious! I grew up in 8th grade loves were:
-Adidas Shelltoe sneakers
-JNCO Jeans (omg, did I just admit that?)
-Roxy, Billabong, and every other surf brand
-Slam books that you shared with your BFF's and you all had nicknames so no one would know who you are if they found it)

I'm going to hide in a corner now...

Oh my goodness...J Timberlake. That hair. Was it ever cute, or were we brainwashed?

Sometimes I watch old movies and look at their clothes/hairstyles and think, "Was that ever really in style??"

Don't mind if I stalk you now!
