I am always up for an adventure (albeit a carefully-planned-out-have-enough-time-to-process adventure), so when some of my plans for the Texas Style Council conference in Austin, TX changed a little bit I jumped at the opportunity to have a little adventure. As I mentioned on Thursday my goal for the conference was to get out of my comfort zone.
On the community board on the TxSC website I saw some one (Vicki, who ended up being in my "dorm room" and coincidentally awesome) posted about the Firehouse Hostel-- Austin's first firehouse turned hostel right off of 6th Street (the night life street in Austin).
Staying at a Hostel by myself?
Yeah, that totally falls into the "adventure" category.
It was cheap, it was close to the conference and when else would I have this opportunity-- I never travel alone. I booked it, packed my shower shoes and set off for my adventure.
It ended up being a really fun experience. The hostel was clean, nice, safe and 3 of the other 8 girls in the female dorm room were also TxSC bloggers. My best friend, KatieBeth, lives just north of Austin so I knew that my family and Reese (and my best friend for that matter) would just assume I was staying with her for the weekend. Honestly, I kind of enjoyed keeping a little secret and being adventurous kind of an "I'm an adult I can do what I want to" moment-- which I now realize is super mature of me. When I finally filled in KatieBeth and Reese their reactions were pretty priceless:
KatieBeth: "MEG! NO YOU ARE NOT!"-- glad to know your parenting gene is working KB!
Steph (other BFF): "You are cray, cray!!! Be Safe!"
Reese: "Well, hope the hipsters aren't hungry"-- glad your sarcastic gene is working mister!
My Mother: (I will get back to you after she reads this post-- I'm sure it will be great)
Obviously I survived and didn't inspire another Liam Nieson movie... and no the "Hipsters weren't hungry", I just came home with a tattoo (it is temporary, a girl can only be SO adventurous).
