Texas Style Council: Getting Out of My Comfort Zone

This weekend I am attending Texas Style Council, this weekend I am stepping WAY  outside my comfort zone. If I were forced to describe myself I think I would finally land on "Extroverted Introvert". I can stand in front of a group of 14 year olds and be confident and commanding (don't mind the fact they are legally required to be in my class), but put me in, oh lets say a hotel in Austin full of my peers, I pretty much want to run and hide. Basically, I am in a constant battle against myself, it's real fun. I have thought and thought and thought about how to win the battle this weekend and get the most out of Texas Style Council. So I reached deep inside my type A soul and decided to make a list... surprised? Me either.

Starting with what to wear... I would ask for imput but by the time you read this I will in in route.. so hope ya like what I picked!

Next, what am I challenging myself to do... 

A. Take Pictures: For as much as I love pictures I tend to shy away from taking pictures in social settings, sometimes people appreciate it and sometimes it is just weird. I am working on honing my internal meter but for this weekend I am going cray. So if you see me SMILE... or look pensively out a window... what ever your going for is cool with me. 

B. Walk up to groups: This is probably the hardest of the tasks I am giving myself. This is also the number one complaint about Blogger Conferences (insert eye roll and side eye here, now moving on). I will get over introverted ways, I will go up with a smile and a question that isn't lame... now to this of said "not lame question". Suggestions welcome. 

C. Be Me: In a sea of bloggers it can get really hard to be yourself. I know who I am and I will not apologize for that. I will be me... in my neon yellow skirt. I will be me.  

D. Strike a Balance: It is very tempting to be on social media the whole times, tweeting and instagraming all of the amazing things I am doing and learning. I am going to make a concerted effort to strike a balance between real life time and social media time. I only get a few short days actually AT the conference and I intend to make the best of them. 

E. Learn: I have gone through the schedule and picked what sessions I want to go to, and that type of learning is great and I am looking forward to it. I also want to keep an open mind to other types of learning-- learning about people and their ideas, companies and their opportunities, and more about myself and who I am as a blogger and a person.  

F. Take a break: I know myself I know that I get easily overwhelmed. I also know that I hate missing out. I know that the easily overwhelmed side of me needs to win because if I don't i'll get a toxic mix of hangry and tired. No bueno.  

G. HAVE FUN: Yes, that-- HAVE FUN.

It my be cheesy, over pinned and make me roll my eyes but DANG it sure is RIGHT. 

If you are going to the conference I CANT WAIT TO MEET YOU, if you are not... sorry for my excessive (but not overwhelming... see letter D) use of social media.

You will have so much fun!!! I am like you (although a little less of the "extroverted" and more of the "introvert") and I felt the same way about BlogHer. But once I was in the mix of things it was great, almost easy! I love that peach top!

this event sounds like a lot of fun! like you, i'm a little shy when in a room full of people i don't know but i try to make the best of it by asking questions and trying to sound interesting!

I agree about having a hard time taking pictures in larger social settings! I'm the same way and trying super hard to work on that this weekend, too. I love the outfits, I wish I were that organized - no idea what I'm wearing tomorrow. :)
